Counselling for Growth

Privacy & GDPR

We take looking after your information as seriously as we take looking after you. Here is how we handle it, in plain English.

Who we are

This privacy notice explains how Counselling for Growth looks after your personal information. Counselling for Growth is the data controller for the information described here. We are based in Teignmouth, Devon. If you have any questions about your information, or would like to make a request, you can email us at info@counsellingforgrowth.com.

Our lawful basis for using your information

When you make an enquiry, our basis is our legitimate interest in responding to you. When you become a client, we hold and use your information to provide your sessions and to meet our professional and legal obligations. Counselling records include information about your health and wellbeing, which is special category data. We handle it on the basis that it is necessary for providing health care and counselling, and with your agreement, which we explain and confirm with you at the start of working together.

What information we collect

When you contact us, book a session or sign up to our newsletter, we may collect your name, contact details and whatever you choose to tell us about why you are getting in touch. If you become a client, we also keep brief, secure notes about your sessions, as part of providing safe and professional therapy.

How we use your information

We use your details to reply to your enquiry, arrange and provide your sessions, and keep the records we are professionally required to keep. If you sign up to our newsletter, we use your email only to send you that newsletter, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We will never sell your information or share it for marketing.

Confidentiality

What you share with us stays confidential. The only times we might need to share information are where there is a serious risk to your safety or someone else's, or where we are required to by law. We will always try to talk to you first wherever we can. We explain these limits clearly at the start of working together.

How we store your information, and how long we keep it

Your information is stored securely and access is limited to our small team. We keep counselling records for as long as we are professionally required to, normally up to around seven years after your last session, in line with guidance for therapists and our insurance. Enquiries that do not lead to sessions are kept only for a short time. When we no longer need your information, we delete or destroy it securely.

Your rights

Under data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to ask us to correct anything that is wrong, and in some cases to ask us to delete it. To make a request, just email info@counsellingforgrowth.com and we will help.

Cookies

Our website uses only the basic cookies it needs to work properly. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not track you across other websites. If we add website analytics in future, we will update this notice first.

Complaints

We hope you will always feel able to come to us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.
